New science fiction series in development

Tom Hanks is reportedly developing a Web series called Electric City that will be set in a hopeful future. About 20 Webisodes, each 30 second long, are planned. The series will be animated.

I’m not sure what the point of the project could be — maybe it’s a step toward Twitterfying animation and entertainment. Have our attention spans really become that short?

Mania reports that Warner Bros. will develop a new movie called “Expulsion”, about a small group of humans who survive some cataclysmic terrorist act and flee Earth to another star system.

Isn’t that just another cheap justification for shooting a drama in low-budget remote locations? Or maybe we’ll see more green screen special effects?

Looks like “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” really did establish a trend after all.
