New “Buck Rogers Begins” production fails to raise funding

Bobby Quinn Rice was to be starring as young Buck Rogers in the Web production “Buck Rogers Begins”, which apparently was going to feature Gil Gerard (TV’s Buck Rogers from the late 1970s) and Erin Gray (Wilma Deering from the same show) as Buck’s parents. And is Samantha Gray, who was cast as young Buck’s fiance, Erin’s daughter (Samantha Gray Hissong)? I think so.

The production was seeking donations for a $25,000 budget to film the pilot episode up through September 18. You could make your contribution at KickStarter’s Buck Rogers Begins page. I don’t know if they’re still seeking funding or if the project is shutting down.

The production began trying to raise money in February with a Buck Rogers Begins CafePress store. Buck Rogers Begins forum discussions apparently ended in June.

It looks like the production failed to pick up much interest from the fanbase. As someone who spends a lot of time browsing movie news sites, YouTube, and other entertainment related Websites, I can tell you this is the first I have heard of the project. These little shoestring projects really need to reach out to a lot of fansites. Not just one. Not just SF-Fandom. A LOT OF FANSITES. We can help promote these projects but you have to find us and contact us.

I probably could not have helped with promoting the project this year because of all my other commitments (and being ill), but had I known about it before this year, who knows?

Well, it looks interesting so maybe they’ll find a way to reignite the progress.
